What is the meaning of Maraka Planet in Vedic Astrology
The word Marak means cause of death. So, the cause of death is known as Marak in astrology. 8th house is known as lifespan house. 3rd house is 8th from 8th house, so 3rd house is also related to lifespan. 12th house belongs loss of lifespan. This concept is used to determine Marak house & Maraka planet.
Marak house & Maraka planet (Markesh) in birth chart
7th house is 12th from 8th house, so 7th house is the first Marak house in birth chart & 7th house lord is known as Maraka planet.
In the same ways, 2nd house is 12th from 3rd house, so 2nd house will be another Marak house & 2nd house lord is Markesh.
Role of Marak house & Maraka Planet during their dasha
Marak planet will cause death or death like situations during their dasha. In the same ways, any planet which is placed in Marak house may harmful for native regarding lifespan matters.
But this is very general statements, which is not seems practical in many cases. Actually, whenever the Maraka planet is badly placed in the horoscope then may cause health issues to the native. Or Marak planet conjunct with natural malefic planet or under bad influence then cause serious problem to their lifespan.
So, in simple word that, Marak needs support from another malefic house or malefic planet to activate his Marak capacity.

As per as my little experience in Vedic astrology, I can say Marak in always in dual role. Just like a family members or friends who is internally prepared to murdered you. So, Marak will most of time giving good results to you. But suddenly by getting help from your worst enemies, Marak will cause serious harm for you.

Maraka Planet for Aries Ascendant
Venus is the Marak Planet for Aries Ascendant. Because Venus is the lord of 2nd & 7th house in Aries horoscope.
Marak Planet for Taurus Ascendant
Lord of 7th house & 2nd house is known as Marak planet. So, Mars and Mercury may be Maraka for Taurus ascendant. Among both Mars will be the worst Marak for Taurus ascendant.
Marak planet for Gemini Ascendant
2nd house & 7th house is Marak for any horoscope. Moon & Jupiter has lordship of Marak house. So, Jupiter & Moon may be Marak planet for Gemini ascendant.
Maraka Planet for Cancer Rising
In any horoscope, the 2nd house lord and 7th house lord are considered as Marak planet. So, planet Saturn may be the prime marak planet for Cancer ascendant.
Maraka for Leo ascendant
Saturn will be the Prime Maraka planet for Leo ascendant. Planet Saturn has the lordship of 7th house. Mercury with lordship of 2nd house may be another Marak planet for Leo Ascendant.
Marak planet for Virgo ascendant
2nd & 7th house is Marak house in a horoscope. For Virgo ascendant, Venus is the 2nd house lord and the 7th house lord is Jupiter. So, Jupiter & Venus will be Marak planets for Virgo ascendant.
Marak Planet for Libra Ascendant
2nd house & 7th house are considered as Marak houses in the birth chart. For Libra ascendant, Mars has lordship over 2nd house & 7th house. So, Mars will be the Marak planet for Libra ascendant.
