Role of Five Elements in Vedic astrology
We know that all world will be made from the five elements. Each planet has its unique elements.
- Sun & Mars is a fire element.
- Moon & Venus are water elements.
- Mercury is an earth element.
- Jupiter belongs to the sky or ether element.
- Saturn & Rahu is Air elements.
- Ketu also belongs to Fire elements.
We use Five elements to determine nature, character and events. Planet has nature according to its elements. Five elements will be very useful to illustrate the results of planets.
How to differentiate five elements matters of planet with same elements
Here some time we were confused about differentiate between Sun fire & Mars fire. Sun is the abdominal fire then Mars will be the fire of the kitchen. This Means Sun will be an internal fire and Mars will be an external fire. Let’s take another example, Sun will be the body heat that protects us from attacks of all sorts of the virus. But Mars will be the heat that is generated during the high sexual temper.
Now understand the difference between Moon water and Venus water. Moon will be the general water but Venus will be the chemical in water form.
Planet & their time frame
Sun rules an Ayana or 6 months. Moon rules a day. Mars rules a week. Mercury rules a Ritu or seasons ( two months). Jupiter rules a month. Venus rules a fortnight (15 days of Moon). Saturn rules a year.
Time frame will be useful in horary astrology and medical astrology.
Planet & their directional strength
- Mercury & Jupiter getting strength in 1st house or east direction.
- Sun & Mars has digbala ( directional strength) in the 10th house or south direction.
- Saturn will be getting digbala in the 7th house or west direction.
- Moon & Venus will be getting digbala in the 4th house or North direction.

- Sun & Venus have average height.
- Moon, Mars & Mercury have a short height.

Sun rules East & Saturn West direction. Mercury rules the North direction & Mars South direction. Jupiter rules northeast & Venus Southeast direction. Moon will be strong in the north-west direction & Rahu & Ketu in the south-west direction.
