What is Gulika Kaal in Vedic Astrology
Gulika is the upgraha of Saturn. Even Gulika is also malefic by nature similar to Saturn. The Time frame which is ruled by Saturn is known as Gulika Kaal.
So, Gulika Kaal will have a huge influence of Saturn. That’s why consider malefic by nature. Gulika Bela is also known as Kulika Bela. So, don’t be confused by the name.
How to Know Gulika Bela per day as per Vedic Astrology
There are multiple ways to Calculate the Gulika Bela. Because we have many units such as Hora, Muhurta, Prahara, and Ghati in Vedic astrology. Muhurat Chitnamani follows the ways of Muhurta. So, we will calculate this by Muhurta.
The easy technique is counting the current days to Saturday. Then double the number which is indicating Muhurta’s number of Starting Gulika Bela at day time.
For Example, on Sunday. We count Sunday to Saturday then we find 7 and after double it, we get 14. So, 14 muhurta will be Gulika Bela. Means we consider Gulika bela from starting of 14 Muhurta.
Gulika Kaal in Day Time
So, Day Time Gulika Bela will be
- Sunday – 14 Muhurta
- Monday – 12 Muhurta
- Tuesday – 10 Muhurta
- Wednesday – 8 Muhurta
- Thursday – 6 Muhurta
- Friday – 4 Muhurta
- Saturday – 2 Muhurta.
Gulika Kaal in Night Time
But at Night time we reduced 1 after above Muhurta. So, Ratri Muhurta for Gulika Bela is
- Sunday – 13 Muhurta
- Monday – 11 Muhurta
- Tuesday – 9 Muhurta
- Wednesday – 7 Muhurta
- Thursday – 5 Muhurta
- Friday – 3 Muhurta
- Saturday – 1 Muhurta and 15th

Some People consider the whole time which is ruled by Saturn as Gulika Kaal.
Calculation Of Gulika Bela as per Ashtamansa of Day/Night
The Time frame between Sunrise to Sunset is Known as Daytime or Dinman. And Time frame between Sunset and to next Sunrise is Night time or Ratrimaan. Daytime and Night time have 8 Kaal or Bela and each Bela is ruled by a planet. Every day in the daytime 1st Kaal is ruled by the Day lord and then another day lord and the 8th Kaal is ruled by Rahu.
For example Sunday, 1st Bela is ruled by Sun, then 2nd will be ruled by Moon, 3rd Mars, 4th mercury, 5th Jupiter, 6th Venus, 7th Saturn, 8th by Rahu or no planet. And next day means on Monday it will start from Moon.
On Night time 1st Bela is ruled by the 5th-day ruler from the day. So on Sunday, Night Bela will be as followed, 1st Bela will be ruled by Jupiter, then 2nd Venus, 3rd Saturn, 4th Rahu, 5th Sun, 6th Moon, 7th Mars, 8th Mercury.

We can take references from this table to find Gulika Bela each day. Saturn ruled Bela will be known as Gulika Bela. As per the classical book of astrology, the last half part of Bela will be considered more harmful by nature. So, if we consider this then Muhurta’s ways will be more useful to determine negative Bela.
Effect of Gulika Bela or Kulika Bela
Gulika bela is consider malefic by nature. So, we should avoid any sort of auspicious nature acts during Gulika Bela.
- Marriage must be avoided during Gulika Bela. Gulika is considered harmful to a marriage.
- We should avoid starting travelling during Gulika Bela.
- Native Should avoid any sort of settlement or contract during Gulika Bela. Because it may cause unnecessary delay in such dealings.
- Any Government related activity will be avoided during Gulika Bela.
- If native-born during Gulika Bela then Gulika will be placed in the 1st house of his horoscope. Gulika in 1st house is not considered good. He has to suffer in his life. You can check this link to know about the effect of Gulika in a different house.
Natural exemption for Gulika Bela
As we discussed, 1st part of Saturn ruled Bela is not much harmful by nature.
- Gulika Bela is not consider so much harmful at night time.
- If day ruler lord is strong and Lagna, when Gulika is rising, is strong in strength and beneficial planet in Lagna then the effect of Gulika Bela is reduced.
- When a beneficial and Strong Moon is placed in Kendra and that Moon is either conjunct or aspect with the beneficial planet and same time Lagna will be strong then the negative effect of Gulika Bela will be reduced.
- If strong Sun and Moon are well placed( means in auspicious house and auspicious sign) during Gulika Bela then the effect of Gulika Bela will be reduced.
But if during Gulika Bela, Rising Lagna is associated with a natural malefic planet and Moon & Sun are weak in strength then consider very malefic.
Remedy for Gulika
Gulika is Upgraha of Saturn. So, we can do any remedy related to Saturn for Gulika.
- Doing Rudra Abhishek will reduce the crush of Gulika.
- Donation of foods related to Saturn on Saturday.
- We can do Hanuman Chalisa during Gulika bela, before starting any urgent work.
- If the effect is serious then Do Gulika Shanti Puja.
